Project B for 2019: Rastrick Cricket Club Green Roofing Project (Rastrick Cricket Club)

The Project involves replacing 2 existing flat roofs with ‘green’ or ‘living roof solutions to create a bio-diverse habitat which will compliment the open spaces of the adjacent cricket field and the iconic Round Hill.

The work involves replacing the existing roof to create a safe platform to then overlay an extensive substrate and a sedum blanket containing several species of plant.

There are environmental benefits together with improved surroundings for our many members, players and supporters as we continue to promote sporting participation in Rastrick and surrounding areas.  The Club runs 4 adult teams and has several junior age groups with junior players as young as 5 years old getting involved.  During 2018, over 75 local youngsters were actively involved in playing or training, supported by several enthusiastic local cricket coaches.

Through the Project, we are aiming to create a real community focal point which hopefully last for many (20+) years to come.  We want to create more opportunities for more people to enjoy what will be a very attractive community facility and in turn we would like to get more people involved in all aspects of the Club, particularly in improving all of the surroundings:  The Club enjoys a very picturesque setting and the Roof Project supports our aim to ensure that the facilities can be enjoyed by future generations.
