Project E for 2019: Bridge End viewing Platform Project (Incredible Edible Brighouse)

Incredible Edible has created a vibrant community park at Bridge End, on 0.4ha of land along the River Calder. We engage with local residents, growing native perennials and grasses to enhance biodiversity, plus vegetables to encourage sustainable food production.

We want to build upon the park’s initial success and make it even better for Rastrick residents. The project will install a viewing-platform overlooking the Calder, comprising a fully-accessible, elevated walkway equipped with viewing telescopes. This will greatly enhance people’s connections with the river, enabling Rastrick residents to better enjoy nature and improve their wellbeing.

The project will also erect educational signage, install a secure site-store and provide new equipment, enabling us to deliver a wider-range of activities and volunteer opportunities. This will increase local residents and community groups’ involvement in the park, encourage our community to work together and provide people with new opportunities to make a positive environmental contribution. It will also improve the site’s long-term viability and sustainability.

The park is open to the public 24hours for 7 days a week, and since its establishment in 2017 over 170 people from local groups have also been to visit and help our work. We hope this project will significantly increase the number and type of people who we can engage with on the site, including new groups such as schools, nurseries, and scout groups

The project will be managed by Incredible Edible’s experienced volunteer team, who have already delivered successful projects across Rastrick and Brighouse.
